Dr Lisa Gannon
Senior Independent Director, Goalball UK
Date: 20th Oct 2026
Lisa is a former Welsh and Great Britain international gymnast with a lifelong passion for sport, performance and people. She has a background in academia, researching and publishing work on bone health and loading in sporting populations. She is also an Executive Coach and has applied her knowledge and leadership across both sporting and higher education contexts.
Her governance experience began over 10 years ago, when she served as a Non-Executive Director (Technical and Education) for Welsh Gymnastics. During this time, she established and chaired the inaugural Performance Committee and led two Commonwealth Games reviews between 2016 and 2023, helping to shape the organisation’s strategic direction.
Beyond academia, Lisa has had the privilege of working as an arena commentator at four Olympic Games and six Commonwealth Games. Through these experiences, and her work supporting inclusive practice in physical activity, she discovered Goalball; a truly inspiring Paralympic sport for people with visual impairments.
Drawing on her experiences as an athlete, academic, corporate coach and sport leader, Lisa took on the role of Senior Independent Director at Goalball UK in 2025, where she continues to support the sport’s growth and development. She is also the organisation’s UKAD representative and is committed to continually developing her governance knowledge, including securing opportunities and funding for Board training and staying abreast of emerging governance and integrity issues within sport.
